I'm Erfan Bashar — a medical student in my fifth year at the University of Milan, International Medical School. Originally from Iran, I moved to Milan to study Medicine and Surgery.
My interests are rooted in physiology, especially respiratory mechanics and intensive care. Since 2023, I've been working as a student researcher in the Respiratory Physiology Laboratory at UniMi under Professor Matteo Pecchiari. In 2024, I co-authored a paper on assessing respiratory mechanics in large animals (Fluids 2024, 9, 142), and started teaching as a lab assistant for the physiology course.
Before medicine, I spent 4.5 years studying pharmacy at Tehran University of Medical Sciences. I left to pursue something more clinical — and more mine. That detour gave me a foundation in fundamental sciences I still draw on.
I write about medicine, identity, being Iranian, and whatever I'm thinking hard about. Some things only make sense in Persian; others need the distance of English. This blog holds both.
